“澳中关系非常重要”：Morrison总理有言在先 Australia-China relations are very important : Prime Minister Morrison has spoken!
I recently published several comments on the importance of the Australia-China Relationship in the Australian Chinese newspaper The Pacific Daily. It is gratifying to see that since then, the Australian Prime Minister has repeatedly stressed the importance of re-establishing Australia-China relations and strengthening Australia-China relations. The letter I sent to him has not been sent in vain.
Recently, Australian Trade Minister Birmingham and Foreign Minister Payne have visited China one after another. Following that, the Prime Minister Morrison then met and exchanged cordially with Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang at the ASEAN meeting in Singapore on 15/11/2018. He also stressed once again that the two countries have very important relations, breaking a year-long cold relations between Australia and China. The Minister for Trade has also just completed the Australia-Hong Kong Free Trade Agreement, and the Foreign Minister has announced plans for former Prime Minister Howard to lead a delegation to China next month for the Australia-China High-level Dialogue. I am delighted to see all these good things happening.
But I must alert Australian Prime Minister Morrison and Opposition leader Bill Shorten not to follow the United States blindly in the old cold war way. Because I just read in the media that the Vice President of the United States has once again said that he wants to launch a new round of cold war policy against China. Whoever is right and who is wrong, history makes it clear that the use of cold war thinking and cold war policy will not end well for either side. And China and the United States both have good allies who will be dragged into the water, which is not easy to clean up. That is how a lot of war broke out in the past. Therefore, we must not repeat the same mistakes.
We are now live in a more civilized 21st century. Our more civilised leaders must not blindly follow the politicians, who are blinded by power? Who is right and who is wrong , can be openly discussed at appropriate meetings in the United Nations, ASEAN, APEC, G20 and for other leaders and representatives to judge and may be corrected for the benefit of the people of the world. Isn't that a better way to solve their differences?
Is it that China-U.S. relations are so bad and strained that they cannot be resolved through peaceful dialogue, exchange, tolerance and amendment? Why should the US push China down so uncompromisingly? The U.S. Vice President Pence has warned and demanded China in extreme terms to change its overall economic, military and political behavior across the board. And unless it agrees with America's demands, the U. S. threatens China that she will embark on a severe comprehensive cold war against China. -- a very unfriendly attitude indeed! But, will that solve the problems??
Today is quite different from the past. China have close contacts with many countries around the world and have frequent friendly relations, not less than what US has! Over the years, the United States has used the hegemonic tactics of power to indirectly steal the wealth of many countries and disrupt the lives of many innocent people, and through the means of wars, to bring about the destruction of many countries and innocent families.
The ASEAN and EU countries have already started to put forward the idea of not choosing sides. Some countries in South America will also use the Chinese currency to trade directly with China. Even the small Pacific island nations such as the host of APEC Meeting on 17 - 18 November 2018, Papua New Guinea, expresses the wish to be peace maker. Before the APEC meeting, Foreign Minister, Pato, said he would be the Messenger for Peace: We don't want super-power rivalry to get in the way of our Agenda! Therefore, I hope that Australia will not have to blindly choose side with US again but try to be a good Messenger for Peace also. I hope leaders of ASEAN, APEC, EU, G20, Japan and other countries will also be good Messengers for Peace.
In this way, the war will not happen again, so that people of all countries can live and work in peace, happiness, with liberty and prosperity; live together amicably, share wealth and create a win-win situation. Why not, for the people of the world ?
